History of Jake Wright Ltd

    • My first land Rover, a Series One 86"

History

My name is John wright and I have always had an interest in all things mechanical having had a grandad who was a highly skilled engineer working with companies such as the famous Scott Motorcycle Company of Bradford.

My father joined the RAF during WW2 where he worked on the infamous Spitfire fighter aircraft.

I trained to be a mechanical engineer, soon becoming interested in Landrovers and at the age of 18 rebuilt my first series I (ex army) '86.

One thing led to another and with help and encouragement from my mother and father it was decided to buy some ex army landrovers which we then refurbished and put up for sale.

From a hobby and based on an engineering background Jake Wright Ltd was formed in 1973.

Motor Sport

From the outset I have been involved with rallying and off road motor sport taking part and winning a lot of competitions in vehicles which I had built and prepared culminating in winning the AWDC British off road racing championshipps in 1985 and 1986.

Magazine Articles

One such occasion was when Landrover Owner International Magazine published an article about an export project we worked on, which involved fitting an aircon system to a Series II!.

LRO have kindly given permission for us to make the article available on this web site.
