Land Rover Series One 1957, 88", SOLD TO N. YORKSHIRE

    • Land Rover classic series one ex factory fire service

Here is a nice ex Fire engine Land Rover  which we understand spent a lot of its working life at Ministry of Defence establishments and latterly at the Royal Ordnance Factory at Barnbow in  Leeds in 1976. This factory employed 17,000 workers in the first world war where shells were being made at the rate of 10,000 per week, the site even had its own railway station . Later on during the second world war it was producing tanks and continuing up until the end of the cold war and produced Centurion's, Chieftain's and lattery Challenger's.

This Land Rover was first registered on the 18th March 1957 and has the 2 litre petrol engine, these Land Rover models were generaly used as factory fire engines and would have had a pump mounted on the rear crossmember with large hose reel in the back as well as larger diameter suction hoses stored on the top of the bonnet as well as brackets onto the front bumper. Tool lockers were provided on both sides ot the rear wheel arches .

This one has since had all the fire equipment removed and only the tool lockers remain, however the multi blade cooling fan remains on the engine as well as the oil cooler in front of the radiator.

This will make a great series one to either keep in its red Land Rover fire engine guise or to repaint into other standard land rover colours , the truck cab can also be removed and a full length canvas hood can be installed .
